Glass is glass and recycled glass rarely goes into new glassware. It is too expensive to process.
Most is recycled into fibre glass insulating blanket.
The rest is choking up facilities all over the world as there is little demand for it.

Recycle Baby Food Jars

2016-10-31 21:47:19 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

Baby food jars, yes. All jars are made out of soda glass which has a lower melting point than other glasses which have different additives, so the other glasses don't mix well with it. Don't worry about recycling the other types of glass, most of what we use is in the form of jars. Window glass and light bulbs don't mix well with jar glass, and you can't be sure what went into the glass used to make a drinking glass. Don't recycle anything but jar glass because it only causes problems down the line. Throw the others away with your trash.

RE:
Can you recycle baby food jars ? And drinking glasses with cracks in them?

The baby food jars? By all means, please do. The drinking glasses however, can't be. Like plate glass from windows they have additives in them, and thus (sniff) they cant be recycled in curbside collection programs.

If you are really artsy-craftsy however, you might want to reuse them - in some original way. How about wiring them with copper and hanging them in a window as a jar for cutting slips to take root in?

Hang onto them for Christmas. Go to a craft store and pick up a bag of plastic christmas figures like reindeer, santa, snowmen etc. super Glue them on the inside of the lid, let it completely dry, put water and a bit of glitter in the jar, not full, just enough to be full once you screw the lid on, run a line of glue on the the rim of the bottle before screwing it on, let dry for at least two days before turning over, tie a ribbon just under the lid. Awesome little gifts for the 3 year old to give family members. Works for halloween, easter, etc too.

Only in certain states. Check the back of the baby food can or whatever it is to see what states will accept it.

If they are glass, then I should think so. Plastic just as well. I guess it depends on what state you live in.
