What if I built a mound of dirt then stuck the 4" tee into it. Would that be legal? As you can see I'm trying to tee the ball higher, legally, of course. There must be a way?

Building a mount does not create more ground clearance.
4 inches is 4 inches, it wont matter if you build a 2 ft. pile of dirt you'll still only have 4 inches of clearance. (really less as you need to sink a portion of the tee into the ground to get it to stay.)

There's a bigger question here:
Why do you need more than 4 inches of clearance?

Even with today's deepest golf face you can easily clear the ball above the driver's top line.

So what's happening with your swing that you need to tee it up so high?

I think a swing fix is more important than a pile of dirt that you made on a tee box. Even if it is legal, it goes against the spirit of the game.

Good luck and feel free to email me if you want to tell me whats going on in the tee box.

Yes, it is legal in fact that is the way they did it when golf was first invented. Have you seen the movie "The Greatest Game Ever Played"?.... Anyways, I recently purchased some really nice tees, they are the new "Brush T- XL" they are 3 1/8" tall and they work better because they are brushes instead of wood, it barely affects the swing. But, there are two other options you can consider 1) Check you'r shaft to make sure it's not "Extra Firm" or anywhere along the lines of "Firm", if you'r shaft is firm then you can purchase a more flexible shaft which will get the ball higher above the ground. 2) Get a club with more loft, I'm guessing that you either have a 9.5 degree driver or a 10 degree driver? If so why not get a driver with a loft of 10.5 degrees? Making the tee higher just to get more tragectory on the shot is risky.... it could just lead to either 1) really high short shots. 2) Topping the ball, thinking you need to to hit higher.
Good luck,
TigerWoodsFan.
(P.S. I personally hit my drives really really high similar to a pitching wedge even when I tee it extremly low, I need to get a 7 degree with an extra firm shaft.....Lower the degree the less control you get....)

Yes building up a mound of dirt is perfectly legal, but with the new large tees now available, you should not have to.

Why do you need to tee it so high? Fix the problem instead of trying to do drastic things to fix it. Because if the problem is getting the ball airborne how are you going to fix the problem for your next shot?
