Apparently "all things in moderation" doesn't count if you actually enjoy it.

I don't consider light to moderate alcohol use a problem whatsoever. Anything in moderation is fine. I am against going out, getting trashed and getting behind the wheel of a car, though. There is nothing un-scriptural about alcohol. There are some denominations that demonize it, but I think that if a person drinks within reason, it's not a problem.

As far as dope is concerned, I do have a problem with that. First of all, I don't like the dope to start with, and it usually leads to other drug problems. Secondly, the Bible tells us plainly, that we're to obey the law. And marijuana is illegal, so to partake of it, is disobeying the law.

I don't think moderate use that does not get you in trouble, or interfere with your work is immoral.

Finding a line of distinction between enjoying yourself at a gathering and excess is one of those many grey areas.

I suppose drinking is an easy "sin of excess" to avoid and harp on. You can feel superior since you have been a good girl. Then look at the other sinners with pity and disdain.

Overeating, laziness, even smoking and many other self indulgent excesses pass quietly under the radar.

I am a Conservative Catholic and I haven't drank any alchol in 14 years and I haven't done any drugs in 13 yrs and I quit smoking cigarettes 2 1/2 yrs ago. I did these things during my late teens and early 20s when I rebelled against my parents and against God. Then I grew up and learned my lesson.

Alcohol and pot changes your brain pattern and can easily make you do and say things that you wouldn't do when you are completely sober. Why would you put something in your body that you know could at any moment change your brain (and pot kills brain cells) pattern and your thinking and thus you would do something that you will regret the next day. Negative temtpations lead to grave sins.

i think its because the only reason to smoke pot is to get high. drinking alcohol is enjoyable, but also delicious in some cases. theres nothing wrong with having a few drinks and saying "ok, those were good, i feel pretty good, time to stop before i go too far".

but theres only one reason to smoke pot, to get fried. thats what they consider wrong. and if you're drinking alcohol with the GOAL of getting drunk, thats not cool either.

i never did any drugs, but in my younger days i drank a LOT. now, if i'm home on the weekend doing stuff around the house, i'll have a few beers, or if i'm at a party. other than that, i dont tend to drink all week.

i agree w. all the ppl who said alcohol in moderation is fine. i'm a christian & i think as long as u dont drink to get drunk it's fine. in ephesians 5:18 it says "be not drunk w. wine; wherein excess" this does not mean that u cant drink, just means U SHOULDNT DRINK TO GET DRUNK!!
& didnt Jesus turn water into wine?? plus there is somewhere in the Bible dat says something abt wine being good for the body but i dont remember exactly where

as for marijuana, it's illegal. & shud not b used other than for medical purposes only. besides smoking is bad for ur health. we all know dat

Because, it alters your mind so to speak. Marijuana we all know what happens, your brain gets fuzzy. Things get silly, etc. Your not in your natural state mind. Same way with alcohol. Some churches believe you are not suppose to have anything with caffeine in it for the same reasons.

A drink here and there is no problem, if you are going to bars every night, that's a problem, and as for weed, its a drug, no two ways about it, the rule of thumb on alcohol is you can drink, but you can't get drunk, the Bible plainly forbids it.

This has always puzzled me as well as I am sure jesus would not have passed on a toke when he was explaining the word to the bretheren. It probably would have been clearer to his listeners if they all shared a bong while discussing it.

Use of marijuana is illegal. I don't think use of alcohol is immoral if you don't get drunk. The Bible does warn against drunkenness.
