The factory twin turbo and the single turbo 3.0 L in line six cylinder can produce upwards and beyond 1000 hp. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend.

Here is an entry in wikipedia under the MKIV Supra.
MKIV Supras have been modified (larger turbos running 30+ psi (206 kPa) of boost and other, undisclosed tweaks) to produce over 1453bhp (1084 kW), as measured at the tires, and cover the 1/4 mile (402 m) in 7.9 seconds.

It also states that a stock 2jz-GTE engine can with stand up to 1000 bhp(brake horse power) without any internal modifications.

I have personally seen these engines with a bigger single turbo. This boost the power more than a twin turbo setup (producing about 500hp). I have even seen a tri turbo setup. This was 1 turbo per 2 cylinders. I believe this produced above 800 hp. I have also seen turbo with NOS this is where you can get at about 1000 hp. There are more mods that are needed to get at this point.

For a street car I would probably keep it at about 500 bhp. This is alot of power for the street. There are not much that could run with you here. I would go with a bigger turbo, probably a Garret. I would upgrade the intercooler to cool the turbo more. I would get a custom tune program for the setup. I would go with a bigger downpipe and muffler. The fuel system will have to be upgraded as well to even the air-to-fuel ratio. I would also look into getting wider wheels and tires to handle the power. I would also look into upgrading the brake system for more stopping power. You will also need a boost controller and a turbo timer. You will also need to upgrade your electronic ignition system to more efficently burn your fuel. I would also not forget to install a boost gauge, air-to-fuel ratio gauge, and temp (exhaust and transmission) gauges to monitor your investment.

These are some things you can and may do. If you have a different year model like a MKIII then things will be different. If you have a N/A and not a stock turbo. You will have to go a different route. I wrote these things based on a MKIV with a stock 2JZ-GTE engine.

Start off y saving $40,000 for the car. If you are going to get a twin turbo Supra this is what they cost. Then, learn how to drive a car with 300hp. This alone is a very powerful car and you would be wise to learn how to drive it before you put any more power in. If you only want a few more horses for cheap you can change the intakes, exhaust, BOVs and wastegates. If you want a little more for more money you can get bigger turbos. If you want to go all out you can put in new pistons and rings, headgsket, cams, valves, and port/polish the head, and get a piggyback computer system. You will then need to upgrade the drivetrain to handle the extra power. From my understanding the bottom end of that engine is strong to keep stock with a lot of horsepower. For the simple updates of exhaust, intakes, and the rest expect to spend about $1500-$2000 and get about 50 horse. If you do everything including an engine rebuild you will probably spend about $10,000 and get an extra 200-500hp depending on how crazy you go. You will also need to invest money in dyno time to tune the engine. Supras are very expensive cars and unless you have lots of money you may be off just getting a newer 350Z that is a couple of years old for half the price of a Supra. You can always add a turbo or two to the 350.

I saw a magazine article on a supra built for a guy in dubai... They used the stock bottom end and managed 1001 hp at the wheels..

Depends how much money you have to spend... Remember, in the auto industry, horsepower is probably the most expensive thing!

Do a search on the internet - there are several Supras and 7MGTE transplants making 1000 crank horsepower. You could spend a few thousand and have a killer 400 - 500 horse set-up, or you could spend 20-30K and have a brute.

Put a nitro kit on it get a high power high spark ignition, have a turbo put on or have the one on it tuned, if it has a power chip in the computer get a bigger horse power chip

well, if you are gonna "pimp" out your car, you can start by learning that "horsepower" is never plural. It's always singular: HORSEPOWER.
