What "brand" of acrylic paints are best for mural painting?

And can they be store bought in large bottles instead of the small craft bottles?

Thank you very much for your help.

I do murals myself and have used a variety of products. I prefer water based paints ie. acrylics.

At the Hobby store you can get Decoart Americana paints or the Delta Ceramcoat brand. Both work well. (Don't bother with the AppleBarrel brand.)

For large areas of a mural I've used regular house paint. (Latex in an eggshell finish). Usually a pint is plenty.

Also for large areas you can add glaze to a hobby acrylic. It gives you a mottled look that can be quite interesting for backgrounds.

If you want to upgrade the paint quality I'd suggest the Golden line. It's available at better art stores. Their quality is tops and since it is highly pigmented you can thin it and/or add glaze and still have a good result. The colors mix well too sou you can work with a limited palette. They have several different sized bottles available.

I have painted many professional murals and have found that exterior latex paints work as well as the more expensive acrylics and tend to last longer. I buy from paint stores and can get discounts on cans of paint that have been returned or mixed wrong. I just stock pile them for future use if they aren't the colors I need. They mix just as well as expensive. You can also buy small cans of pigment from paint stores for mixing your own colors.

I'm the "mural lady" around here so everybody donates their leftover latex paint from their DIY projects and I choose from this inventory for small areas in my murals. For large murals you can't beat the price latex wall paint for your dominant colors. Save the bottles you get at the craft store for small details.

I always used Delta paints for murals, only because they were the only thing availible to me where I lived I bought them at walmart. I found they worked great though.
Any acrylic paint should be fine for simple murrals or beginners. I wouldn't worry about top-grade stuff unless your planning on doing in commertially.

I use casein paints for murals. Leonardo da Vinci used an experimental medium with oil on "The Last Supper", and it soon faded badly. Use care, lest the same thing happen to your murals.
