Yeah, it's worth it. You see and do some things others only read about. You get to experience the best and definately the worst from people. Lots of nights you wonder why you stay on the job but before you know it, you have a vested interest in a pension. It's an experience you'll have to remember the rest of you life. Plus, the pension isn't bad in Illinois.I get 40 K a year for just being alive and my wife gets it when I die. All this and started another job by age 51. Yeah, it's worth it.

Being a rookie cop and putting your life on the line in my area? About $25,000 a year.

Being a receptionist in a office in my area where your life will almost never be on line? About $40,000 a year. No college degree required.

You decide.

Yes...because you can retire after 25 years and get another job. You can then pull down 80% pay from pension and make lotsa bucks!

99% of the time it is worth it, because as cliched as it is we do help people occasionally.
(and the $36/hour also helps)
