The man is a nut-case! He is doing God's work....only backwards! By preaching hate, he teachs people just how ugly the face of hate is and no-one wants to identify themselves with him, or that kind of ugly behavior!

It is not so much his right as a preacher that is the problem. It is his constitutional right of free speech, and the fact that there are still a couple of law degrees in his family even though his was yanked away from him many years ago. The family (Westboro Baptist Church) is quick to file a law suit against anybody who tries to stop them.
It is a shame that no one did anything on a nation level until he started attacking the fallen soldiers. For years before this he has picked the funerals of people they thought were gay.
What they (WBC) did at the funeral of Mathew Sheperd, and a memorial put up in his honor is horrifying. But you didn't hear the nation crying out for Matt. And he was no less innocent than the boys who have fallen in the war!

Where do you get that people are supporting Fred Phelps in any way? I just read through the answers to your first post, and I don't see anybody saying that he is anything other than a bigoted nut case.

And for that matter, what do you expect anybody to do about him? Unless something's changed in the last 20 minutes or so, "Because he needed killing" is still not a valid point of law.

God is love, so don't blame Him for what a nutcase like Phelps does.

If anything is possible (and it *is*), then it is possible that Phelps truly is a Christian.

I don't believe he is. I believe that God is love, and that the way to God is through love. (read the gospels, 1 John, and 1 Corinthian 13:1-13).

But I have to worry about my relationship with God, not his. He has heard the truth, it has been shared with him by other true Christians, and he has (presumably) read the bible himself. He may well be an apostate, but i prefer to let the Lord sort it out.

Tere are better things to meditate on.

Go with God.

I didn't see anyone supporting his rights as a preacher, although I admit that I didn't read all the posts in detail.

The fact is, that man is loathsome. His message is evil and intolerant. BUT he does have freedom of speech covered by the Constitution of the U.S. People can't take that away from him just because he's an intolerant bigot. All we can do is not give him publicity and make sure lots of people speak out against his messages of hate.

(I'm not a Christian, I'm an agnostic atheist--and I'm a huge supporter of our Constitutional rights.)
