I don't understand why the dog hates the crate so much when we are not home . He litterally has destroyed his crate and continues to do so when he is in there and noones at home. We have tried everything we have even padlocked it because he was getting out and he just trys to pull the bottom of his metal crate in . What can i do to maybe prevent this ?

He doesn't "hate" his crate...he has separation anxiety and is trying to get out to be with you!

I suggest you get rid of the wire crate, and get one of the hard plastic/fiberglass ones. They are more bulky, but they block alot of the outside world, are dimly lit, and this makes it more cozy and comfortable.

I have a Recipe for Separation Anxiety at the link below. Hope it helps!

I reccommend using Pet Porter for his crate it sounds as if he is not used to the crate so when he is put in there he freaks out the best thing to do is to crate train him by getting him used to the crate slowly you don't want to make thet dog think he is being punished try first by setting the crate in an area of the house where everyone frequents as well as the dog that way he can check it out for himself then slowly work with him by putting him in the carte for short periods of time while y'all are home & work your way up with him until he can stay in his crate for the length of time needed also try putting blankets & a few of his toys in their with him you can also use a radio just pick a talk station or one with soothing music & leave it play at a low volume in the room with the dog.

It sounds like he could have separation anxiety. I have a friend that has a Bulldog that had this and he would destroy his crate also. You don't want to just let him out of his crate as he will probably tear up your house then. You should either talk to your vet or a trainer to try to fix the problem. It is possible that your vet may need to prescribe your dog some medicine for this problem.

That's why we don't use the wire crates.. They are easy for the dog's to get out of, and they could also VERY easily get caught by the crate trying to get out of it.. Dogs die getting 1/2 in and 1/2 out of those wire crates..
Try a Vari-Kennel or Ferrari Kennel, the hard plastic type ones. Closed in more and more secure and seem to be more den like. I got one for each of the dogs for when we go out and they all love their crates. I only have to say ' Pick a crate ' and before I know it they are all in their crates waiting for me to close the door.

He needs TOYS! Lots and lots of toys as well as bones and maybe some food dishes that hang on the door. He sounds like he just wants to chew at something so give him something to do while he's in there.
Also make sure he has a comfortable bed so he can curl p in it and be cozy.

He's lonely and bored, maybe you can block off the kitchen with a baby gate to give him more room. I buy my dog a nice big bone if I will be gone for a while, keeps him busy.

dunn is right but whats a mom to do. Go shopping!! Get the little darlin some new toys or chewers. He's bored out of his mined. Try a radio or TV and see what happens. If you have web cam put him on your net at work and see what the guy is up too.

It sounds like he has seperation anxiety. Do a google on it. Its treatable, but without behavior modification and possibly medication he will not magically get better. Some people have already suggested some good ideas...the radio, toys etc.

put a toy in it or get a larger crate. Also I have heard that if you keep a tv running or some kind of familiar sound they will be less apt to do this.

Please don't leave a dog in a crate all day, unless it's a HUGE one. It's just cruel. Give him a suitable, big run or leave him in the garage, laundry or workshop, or outside if the weather's okay.
