What if the soldier has a DD214 from active duty, from prior service. Couldn't he use that for employment references?

The fact that you want to use a different DD214 shows that you deserve you other than honorable, clearly you are a disgrace

I Would Believe It Wouldn't Matter If Its A Discharge From Either. Other Than Honorable Isn't A Bad Discharge But It Isn't Good Either. I'm A Marine And Not A Soldier But In The Marines Your Discharge Is Based On Your Pros/Cons Mostly. So If Stay Out Of Trouble And Do What Your Supposed To It Shouldn't Be To Hard To Get An Honorable Discharge. But It Could Be Different In The Army..

You don't even get a DD214 for discharge from the reserves only a copy of orders. DD214's are only given after a period of active service 30 days or longer. Reserve service isn't even annotated on a DD214. Trust me I was Active and Reserves. You must of had to mess up pretty bad to get an other from honorable from the reserves as messed up as they are. Most job applications only ask if you were "dishonorably" discharged because that makes you basically the same as a felon. I would kiss any federal or state job goodbye though as they are sure to dig deep into your military service.

It's a general discharge other than honorable. He doesn't have 2 different DD214's since they both go to the same Social.
What is your question.

Generally speaking, such a discharge could be avoided. He made a choice to screw up and it will follow him forever. Drug use is the most common.

Honorable discharge or none at all. ANYTHING inbetween is shameful unless there's a mental prob.
