i have been having the same problem and at the moment we are treating my 5month old for digestive problems so she is drinking alot so havn't been making it out the back, try taking him out the back or to the area every hour then plenty of praise if you find he has gone in the crate or somewhere he wasn't meant to show him what he has done give a firm NO and take him to the area he should be going.
Also get him checked over by the vet to be sure its not a health issue why he cant hold him self.

How long is he in his crate? If he's a puppy, he might need to go out more often. I would also take him to the vet to make sure it's not a bladder infection. Dogs generally don't like to use the bathroom where they sleep (i.e. the crate).
