Some of the questions I have posted are:

1. "As a liberal, what do you feel about cousin marriages?"

2. "Do you consider abortion as a form of murder?"

3. "Is abortion a physically painful and extremely expensive procedure?"

The thing is I come from a backward culture & i want to learn about Western culture. So, I ask some of these basic questions. But I hear from some people that my questions do not warrant an answer, much less an intelligent one. What is wrong with my questions? I would like to hear intelligent opinions from people, but all I get are only emotional, close-minded views.

Should I rephrase my questions so that they are more intelligent? I'm sorry because English is not my first language

1. Cousins should never marry-regardless of political ideology-because it is wrong on so many levels: Genetically, mentally, genetically and genetically-oh and don't forget genetically.

2. Personally, I do not consider abortion murder. Many religious fundamentalists do believe that is murder, but who cares--they are religious fundamentalists unwilling to consider anyone else's opinion.

3. An abortion is neither painful nor extremely expensive.

Don't worry about the phrasing of your questions. I did not find anything wrong with them, it just depends on the areas that you ask the questions as to whether people will answer them.

There is nothing wrong with your questions except that some of them are hard to answer. As for the first one, I am not a liberal, so you are not asking me. That is like asking a question saying "men only." As a woman, I wouldn't answer. As a conservative I could not answer a question for liberals. The second question would require a very long answer so if I saw that question I probably would not answer it. The third question, I could not answer as I do not know how much an abortion costs or if it is painful.

Your questions are not wrong but if you want more responses you could rephrase them:

1. What do you feel about cousin marriages?

2. Are you for or against abortion?

3. To anyone who has had an abortion. Cost? Pain.

Good luck to you.

Well,here goes.
I am rather surprised few people bothered to give a weighed response to your questions, then again I'm new to this forum.
It seems from your example questions that most of them would touch on religion, ethics and moral issues in western society.Points of view and possible answers would lie on both
ends of the spectrum.By there very origin these questions would provoke emotional responses.
They are divisive in western culture, there is no middle ground and very few gray areas.
Also they are complex, cousin marriages for example is a no-no in my society and has been for centuries.
1 reason to say I'm against it,but there are many other considerations, are the marriages arranged?,what is the position of the woman in this arrangement?.
What about genetic inbreeding?
I do not consider abortion as a form of murder, but any society that offers abortion as "the easy way out" without addressing the reasons for these abortions I consider as criminal.
Physical pain during an abortion is a terrible side effect,if it happens to be expensive ( I think it is not to bad) and the abortion is necessary,so be it !.
I really think the pain and expenses will be paid in emotional damages for a long time,I just don't believe people
have abortions for convenience.
My question : Why do you consider your culture backward ??.

First off, your English is fine. My best guess is that these questions have already been asked, probably more than once.
Of course these questions warrant intelligent answers. All questions do. It seems to be the trend that people are very emotionally driven and stubbornly steadfast with their opinions when it comes to such controversial issues like abortion. It's pretty hard to be emotional and intelligent at the same time.
So, check out the resolved section for questions similar to yours, you might find some more satisfying answers, and keep asking away!

Many people in Western cultures have strong opinions about those questions. Because of this, sometimes they become angry and do not want to answer. The Yahoo!® Answers site seems to have a lot of people who act like that, even though some of us are not like that. I think your questions are OK, but on a site like this one you might have to rephrase them to make people reply.

I think a lot of people who visit Yahoo! Answers are not really into the deep questions of life. Also, it depends a lot on your timing. I think most questions are up on the home page for a very short period of time -- maybe 30 seconds tops. So, to get an answer, someone has to read your question and think it's interesting in that little 30-second time window.

They are uncomfortable questions. You might try a different time of day to see if more serious people are hanging around then.

There is nothing wrong with your questions, but the manner in which you are posing some of them makes you sound as though you are editorializing them.

Be aware though that Yahoo Answers being what it is, you are likely to get stinging replies from some people no matter what you do.
