Are passports in other countries microchiped?

Just got my renewed passport (Australian) today and it has a microchip embedded in it. What are other countries like. Also when i got photo done I was not allowed to smile or have my teeth shown is this same with other countries?

Most all countries are adding chips to new and renewed passports starting this year.
