Don't take this the wrong way, but I've heard the 2.7L V6 for the Chrysler 'LH' cars from model years 1998 to 2003 was one of the WORST engines. They are NOTORIOUS for sludging up and failing early. Apparently the oil passages are very small on this particular engine, and with the catalytic converters in very close proximity to the engine block, both combine to literally 'cook' the engine oil, making the propensity for failure extremely high. This is especially so, if oil changes aren't done REGULARLY (every 3,000 miles). Sorry for your luck.

This engine is known for it's problems. Especially before it's 02 update.
The way it was designed doesn't allow oil to circulate enough, and it will eventually sludge up and completely ruin the engine (even at only 110k). Based on what people have told me, as well as personal experience, the engine will give out without warning.
What happened with me is I started getting weird noises, smoke out the tailpipe, trouble starting, etc. And then it just stopped working all together. That all happened within 1,000 miles.
I would start saving for a new car. The cost to repair the engine is probably more than the KBB value of the car :\

i own a repair shop, and you don't have enough miles on it to have worn out the rings in it,unless it has been hot this willl take the tension out of the rings ,and make it burn a lot of oil, also bad heads wil do this also ,those was good engines, and normally didn't give many problems ,but like i said if its been hot,it may have a bad set of heads or have some really weak rings in it,also valve stem seals will cause one to use some oil but not drink it,you have internal problems with that one, good luck i hope this helps.

probably because it's a 2.7...no joke worst engine dodge ever made. At least it's only burning oil and hasn't wrecked your timing chain or camshaft...YET. I agree with the guy above me about weak rings and it probably has been running hot being you're burnin gup oil all that all cept the part about them being a good engine, I love dodge and will probably always have one but NEVER the 2.7.

The question is it burning or leaking the oil. If it is burning it you will see blueish smoke coming from the tailpipe. The main causes of this are bad valve seals in the head or broken worn or cracked piston rings.
