dogs first come into heat around 7-9 months old... and then every 6 months after

however...

they are not fully physically developed at this time.

Therefore, you should wait until your dog is at least 1 1/2 - 2 years old before you allow them to have their first litter. The larger the dog breed, the longer you need to wait.

If the female has had her first heat, then yes. But if they are a large breed, they won't be fully grown and developed inside- it would be like a young teenager having a baby- not the best plan. Your mother needs to ask herself why she wants puppies. Is she keeping them all? Has she figured out the expenses for that many more mouths to feed? Plus vet care? Can she find good homes for them all, if she doesn't keep them? With all the thousands upon thousands of dogs destroyed each year, she should consider this decision carefully, so your dogs puppies don't end up the same way, down the road, when an owner gets bored when the cute puppy turns into a dog that needs training, vet care, etc., and turns into a 10-16 year ( on average) commitment.

You obviously have no idea what you are getting yourself into so although animals are able to pro-create, based on the experience of their owner, I'd say a big NO.

Why would your mum want the dogs to have puppies anyway? They are far too young. Even if you wait a while longer, does she want puppies just because it sounds like it'll be fun?

Is there room in your house for a lot more dogs? Is she going to be okay with 10 times more poop, pee and food bills? If not, will you be good enough to ensure that all the puppies get neutered and given good homes and not left to someone who'll dump them after a few months?

Will you look for an experienced dog breeder who will advise you and will you do your research and make sure the mum gets a very good diet and medical care throughout the pregnancy, delivery and post-delivery period?

There are many things we can do. They're not all always good ideas.. There's a big enough problem in this world with unwanted pups and dogs. Almost all of them start with someone thinking having a litter of puppies will be cute.

7 months is quite young. Female dogs need at least a year for their bodies to be developed enough to handle the stress of pregnancy and birth. It is even better to wait until she is two years old, so that she is mentally prepared for puppies as well. Generally, it is recomended that you wait to breed a female until at least her second heat cycle.

There is a lot of things to consider when breeding a dog. I am sorry to say, but if you are considering breeding seven month old dogs, then maybe you should re-consider until you have done a bit more research on bringing new dogs into the world. Are there homes lined up for these puppies, or will they just be adding to the surplus of dogs already looking for homes?

Are these a specific breed of dog, or just two dogs that you want to have puppies? If they are a specific breed, do they both conform to the breed standard? Do they have any genetic defects? What reason do you have for breeding them other than just because you want them to have puppies?

They can but they shouldn't until they are at least 2 years old. My brother has a dog that got pregnant around 6 months, just before she was to be spayed. First she could barely care for the puppies nor did she want to. So my brother, sister-in-law and I had to bottle feed and potty 13 puppies. Second, it really stunted his dogs growth as her body was still growing and a lot of the stuff her body needed to grow went to the puppies instead. Even with those things my brother was very fortunate that those were the only problems it caused his dog.

What is the point to breed them? Are they pure bred dogs? Have you ever bred dogs before Do you know the risks involved in breeding? Are you okay with the fact that some of the puppies or even your female might die in the process?

If your mother wants to breed them just to see the miracle of life or just to breed them, I'm sorry, but that is stupid. Unless you have a very good reason to bred the dogs, I wouldn't do it period.

For me the only good reason there is to breed a dog is, if they are purebred, to help perfect their breed. If that is the case, then wait until the dogs are 2 years old. Get them fully checked out for any health problems. If they come out with a clean bill of health, then by all means, go right on and let them breed. Either way, your female needs to be completely healthy before she has her puppies.

Until then, you NEED to keep them away from each other.

But like I said, if you are breeding them just because, please don't do it. Get your dogs fixed. Or if you can't afford both at least get one of your dogs fixed and then later, when you save up more money, get the other one fixed.

If you are breeding them because someone told you that the female will die if she is fixed before she has a litter. It's a lie. Your dogs are more likely to get cancer if they aren't fixed. You dogs wont's get fatter.

Read the link to find out more about the myths attached to getting your pets fixed.

Whatever you do decide to do, weigh the pros and cons. Getting your pet fixed is expensive, but so is taking care of a litter of puppies.

That is way too young to have puppies or breed. No dog should be bred until at least 2 years old.

You should absolutely NOT breed dogs that are 7 months old. They are not physically or mentally mature. Their bones are not finished growing, their growth plates not closed. You could irreparably damage your female dog this way.

If you don't know the answer to this question you have NO business breeding animals of any kind.

Get educated first.

Usually after about 1 year dogs are able to reproduce. Has the female gone into heat yet? That is the #1 sign for her. She'll start acting funny, and may show submission ( head and chest low to ground with butt in the air).
