At least other religions have their holy texts out there for peer review (much good that does them) and don't sue people who make them public. Also: You don't need $300,000 to get to the end of the bible.
But as for the underlying concept, it's just as wacky.

Scientology is definitely more absurd than other religions. Why? Read on:
"Xenu (sometimes Xemu) is introduced as an alien ruler of the "Galactic Confederacy" who, 75 million years ago, brought billions of people to Earth in spacecraft resembling Douglas DC-8 airliners, stacked them around volcanoes and blew them up with hydrogen bombs. Their souls then clustered together and stuck to the bodies of the living. The alien souls continue to do this today, causing a variety of physical ill-effects in modern-day humans. Hubbard called these clustered spirits "Body Thetans," and the advanced levels place considerable emphasis on isolating them and neutralizing their ill effects."
I'm sorry, but I physically can't help ridiculing this stuff. If you've ever seen the movie Battlefield Earth and keep in mind that the sham Hubbard, who came up with that garbage AND Scientology...well, it's just easy pickin's, man-animal.
F**k Xenu. Anyone who believes this crap is stupid, has low self esteem, is easily manipulated, or is mentally retarded. Sorry, Tom Cruise.

Hello Happy,
I'd have to say I don't find religion absurd. I do find ignorance nearly intolerable though.
The principles of Scientology have allowed me to be more myself. I am definitely more able than I was before Scientology. The fact is I am more me instead of me with a pinch of all the people I've met along the way.
Don't get me wrong the people I have met along the way are varied, interesting and valuable beings. They are themselves.

I do not understand the concept of following a "religion" that was written and founded by a SCIENCE FICTION WRITER. I think that would be the first big red flag. If that were the way to a true religion, we could all make up our own. There are reasons why we have books from God's messengers. Moses brought the Torah, word from God. Jesus brought the Bible, word from God, Prophet Mohamed(pbuh) brought the Qu'ran, word from God. Classifying Scientology as a religion classifies the writer as God. I hate to burst the bubble of it's followers, but Mr. Hubbard is NOT God, never has been, and never will be.

I think that Tom Cruise is absurd, but I don't know enough about Scientology to have an opinion either way.
They need a new poster boy...

No more absured, than any other.
Just seen though by more ppl, because it's new.
Give it a 100 or 200 years, once they give birth and brainwash the generations, it will grow.
Someone should be monitering this, it's a great chance for human study.
How many kids fall away from the religion of their parents ?
How many kids follow ?
Hmm..

I have actually read a bit about Scientology, and my answer to your question is YES! It IS closer to a cult than a religion, and think of this...any "religion that make you pay a GREAT DEAL of $$$ to LEARN about the faith is WRONG WRONG WRONG!

It's not even a religion. It's a cult. And yes, it's a very very absurd cult. Aliens, mental implants, a global conspiracy involving psychiatrists, sitting in saunas and taking massive doses of vitamins to get rid of MENTAL ILLNESS and ADDICTION, paying thousands of dollars to hold onto tin cans and recount painful memories, etc etc...
Yeah, I'd say that's pretty damned absurd.

really strange religion.
I remember my mother met them in the early 80's. After half an hour she left the hall where they were conducting an IQ test. She had this yellow book & wasn't into it so she called them to say she wouldn't be going back to which they said..... is it your husband doing this to you. You should leave your husband now! we'll come pick you up, where are you!
She only spoke to them for half an hour. Like I said really strange religion.
