I took Celexa for a while, it was recommended to me by my doctor because it had fewer side effects. It seemed to help but I think what was happening in my life played a bigger role in making me feel better. A year after I got off it, I was depressed again. I have a lot of anxiety as well. I got a prescription for Effexor. I did some research and found some of the side effects a lot of people were reporting outweighed the benefits and decided not to take it.
St. John's Wort is more natural and may help.

Hi, the best anti-depressant is to get involved in volunteer work. And daily exercise. Have a purpose in life and feel the significance in you will help you go through the depression. Medication is good, I take klonopin myself, but it only numbs the pain, the cause is still there. Also, healthy eat. Do a lot of Fruits and Veggies. B-12 vitamin is also super brain food for depression.

I am no doctor or nurse. I am a person who suffers from depression and have been put in and out of psychiatric wards for some time. To be totally honest, it depends upon the individual, their psychiatrist prescribing the medication (Meaning their preference.), or their family doctor, some family doctors do prescribe psychotropic medications, some do not. I suffer from really bad anxiety and depression, and I am on three different types of medications to help me. No, actually four. Sorry. :) So it is really not one type of medication that would work "universally" for everybody. It varies from person to person. At least that is what I was told by my shrink, (psychiatrist). :-)
I hope that was helpful take care of yourself.

Laughter and a good friend. Medications never worked for me, but being around people that make me happy makes everything that's bad just disappear. Medication can't solve your problems; you have to change your thoughts to pull yourself out.
And medications work differently for everybody. There's no best anti-depressant. If you don't think your current medication is doing it for you, then change.

Klonopin is NOT an antidepressant!!! Klonopin is used to prevent seizures and also to prevent panic attacks and anxiety.
I have been on Elavil for depression for over 20 years. For me, it works wonders. It helps me to sleep, eat, and go about my everyday life. They have tried newer antidepressants on me--without success. Elavil is a tricylic antidepressant, and goes from around 10 to 150 mgs. It is also extremely inexpensive and goes by the generic name, 'amitriptyline'.

Unfortunately, there is no simple answer to this one.
I have chronic depression and I started out on Prozac, but my doctor changed me to Zoloft, which was much better for me. It all depends on how you react to the medication. The doctor just has to try out a medication to see if it works...

Surfing. The best natural anti-depressant available. If you don't live near the ocean, go biking. Don't have a bike, running. If its raining, listen to classical music and take a nap. These cures have no side effects, are good for you physically and mentally, and are good to do every once in a while for anyone.
