So i've been going through out highschool thinking without a doubt that i wanted to go to collage for a computer degree. But all of a sudden (no idea why), im starting to think about going into the military. It might be the excitement of going off somewhere new and doing new and exciting things. Im a highschool junior, 17 years old. i know the military is dangerous, but it doesnt have any effect on my mind as whether to go into it or not. I love working out and going to the weight room and all that stuff, but im not in the JROTC because i wasnt thinking about the military until this year. I guess my questions are: Do you think it is wise for me to be thinking about the military?, If your in the military, would you say the military is worth all the training with what you get to do?, Would it matter if im not in the JROTC?, Where can i get info on bootcamps for people between jr. and sr. year? and How long does some one stay on active duty befor you get a break?

You should really think hard about it. Yes you can join the military and still get college, that's something you have to work for. Currently the Navy is need of people in Intelligence, giving large bonuses for enlistment, but you have to be able to pass a full background security check. If you still would like to go to college but would like a chance at military look into ROTC program. The requirements can be met with good school work and a good SAT or ACT. Here are a couple of links that give info on Navy college programs available. You may get a warning page when you click on the links, just click continue and it will go to the the site.

If you want to go to college and be in the military; you can take the Reserves route. You drill one weekend a month and two weeks a year.
The problem with the Reserves is that MOS are limited to however far you're willing to travel.
Each branch has it's own website; I know the Marines have a section for boot camp knowlegde.
I enjoy my time in the Marine Corps. My unit has been to Iraq and we're gearing for round two. The training is worth it, being a college student and in the military, my plate is always full. But the end result is worth achieving; to know that you're a Marine, soldier, sailor, airmen/women and getting your degree is well worth the pain you go through.

Join the Navy or Air Force, they will send you to computer school for FREE! Some of the people I work with at an Air Force base are being recruited by civilian companies for very lucrative positions when they are out of the military. The service is not that dangerous (unless you join the Army or Marines) Both the USAF & Navy have a lot of high tech jobs. I didn't enlist back in my day and it is one of my biggest regrets..

If you get the opportunity to join ROTC, do so as it is to your advantage. Of course it's wise to consider military service because of the advantages which will come your way after completing your duty. Robert, in less than two minutes you were able to convince me of your maturity, your potential ability to help our country in an emergency and during the rest of your projected useful life! Choose your prefered branch and contact the recruiter whom will be able to advise you on options for a young man of your determination, including the availability of boot camps and other military questions. Thank you and Godspeed!

i think the military is a good choice for all young adults i gained alot of excellent training in the navy and would still be in if i wasnt medically retired however if they would have allowed me to stay in i would have stayed for 20 and retired then got out and got a state or postal job and retired again at age sixty two. plus they will pay for your colledge degree while your in and after your out . also you recieve alot of federal bennefits from the veterans administration once you get out with an honorable or medical discharge. so think long and hard and make the best decision for you.

If you feel like you would like to join the military then go for it. We always can use a few good men and women. The military will help you go to collage by offering a scholarship to those in the military.

this is something you should find out yourself and not have other people tell you to do. just call recruiters and set up meetings. honestly i cant wait for boot camp i think joining is the best thing ive done. and you can get your computer degree and tech training at the same time. check it out sometime.

military suck. john kerry said so.
Speaking to an audience composed mainly of college students, Kerry said, "You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq." ~ Senator John Kerry
