I mean for real...I'm all for evolution, because where are the dinosaurs at in the bible. There is scientific proof for the emergence of the universe. I'm a math/science major...so what should I believe...facts or fiction?

Even Charles Darwin believed in Creation.

"There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed by the Creator into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone circling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being evolved." Charles Darwin - Origin of the Species

Are you saying he got it wrong too???

You can believe both ! Maybe God created evolution and the Old Testament just got the timing all screwed up.
I mean, how many generations of scribes have been copying and re-copying the same story. There are bound to be some typos and lost documents, plus the language has changed since the time of Moses. And how much is allegorical ?
I personally don't see any conflict between Creation and Evolution. You have to look beyond the "Little Picture" presented by some proponents of both theories.

The Bible is not to be taken as a description of scientific reality, but as an illustration of the correct relationship between humankind and God. That's why there are no dinosaurs. Also, many or most Christians believe in evolution. the two beliefs are not incompatible.

To "create" means to put and keep something in existence. God is Creator because He puts and sustains everything in existence. He is the maker and final goal of everything that exists, all things visible and invisible.

The truth of creation means that God's loving creativity builds into each of us a meaning, purpose and destiny which nothing can take away from us.

Does the Genesis account of creation contradict the scientific theory of evolution? No. In affirming that God is the ultimate cause of all that exists, Genesis gives its ultimate meaning and purpose - "Why" the world exists. It does not explain "how" the physical world came to be in its present condition, which the theory of evolution tries to explain.

The Catholic Church does not have an official position on whether various life forms developed over the course of time. However, it says that, if they did develop, then they did so under the impetus and guidance of God, and their ultimate creation must be ascribed to him.

Concerning human evolution, the Church has a more definite teaching. It allows for the possibility that man's body developed from previous biological forms, under God's guidance, but it insists on the special creation of his soul.

Peace and every blessing!

You're the science major (and I'm assuming it's not "Creation Science") so you know what to believe or trust. But I'm willing to bet with your dinosaur statement, you'll get some creation fanatics who will tell you something that denies evolution. Ummm....one I read today was that Nessie is a dinosaur that Noah dropped off in Scotland....

Fact! I don't understand why people can't believe in evolution AND follow the Bible (or Torah as the case may be). But maybe that's because I think of holy books as guides for how to live your life and not as accurate accounts of real events.

Well, if you want a fact, consider this: The probability of life simply happening is about 100 billion to one. And if you consider the big bang theory, then what form of life do you think could have survived that and if it did where did it come from before that? And the only other way would be spontaneous life from nothing.

Truth can stand up to facts. If the evidence says something is true, believe it. Don't let anyone bend the truth to their preconceived ideas and religious dogma. Logic and intelligence will win out!
