what is an absolute must during a trip to new york?

mainly, i'm asking about food, but i'll will be more than happy to receive other suggestions as well.. please help! i want this to a memorable trip..: )

The deli idea is a good one... try Katz on Houston. I would also try to include lunch at Gramercy Tavern or Union Square Cafe. If you're into brunch, the best in the city is at Prune.

For less expensive things, go to Gray Papaya for a great, cheap hot dog, or to the Halal food cart on 6th avenue, next to the Hilton (56 st, I think).
