I'm coming from a small (pop. 130,000) town in Kansas, and I am moving to L.A. this summer. I need to know what it's like there. What is an easy (and decent paying) job to get? What does everyone do in their free time? I'm nervous about the crime rate...ours is pretty low, per capita. That's the kind of stuff I want to know. Any clues you could offer would be wonderful! Thanks, all!

I've researched the cost of living, etc. and know that I'll be paying upwards of $1300 for a studio, but that's ok with me. I've put this off for a year now, and I think I'm ready to go.

Like that famous line by Dorathy in "The wizard of Oz" says "I don't think we're in Kansas any more". California is totally different from Kansas, and certainly different than what you think about it from T.V. and the movies. It's large, crowded, and EXPENSIVE. I strongly suggest that instead of packing up every thing you have and moving out here, that you just come for a short visit. Get a idea of the housing costs, the job market, the different areas, ect before you commit your self to a permenant move.

Before going to L.A. be sure that you have a future ahead of you over there. You dont even now that life is better in your area at present. Check for jobs online ! Think of this over and over again not only once, twice but a hundred time literally!

Dont rush things! Go to LA one weekend first before totally moving out there! See if you really want the area!

I had been to San Francisco, San Diego, Alisso Viejo in Orange County, Simi Valley and Camarillo both in Ventura County, El Centro California! One thing I hate is passing by LA and its traffic! It makes me have headache literally! It is too hot! Too polluted!

I have a cousin who can adopt me in Glendale. However, I feel suffocated whenever I go there. i love the above other places more than being in LA.

lots of cars and smog, traffic galore at any time of the day,,, the weather is pretty good, no snow..
free time- people hit the beach, to walk, skate, surf, etc..
It is pretty expensive to live in LA, you might be working 2 jobs and not have much free time,,
there are some idea of jobs at-

but I would try to get the LA times classifed...
good luck

Before you come to LA be sure to have an eduacation and a profession. If you have a job lined up it is even better.

You're going to love LA. Just try not to be influenced by Gangs to do bad things. Use your conscience.

The weather is PERFECT here in my opinion. Also, free time here is just like free time in any other city, so don't worry.

Be yourself, stay cool. 8)

Don't get hustled, stay away from crack and herion, and use a condom.
But other than that it's going to be the best move you have ever done.
