So far it is your dad's house and he dicides what to do. I know you might not like me writing this but it's the truth. You can't do anything your dad doesn't approve of now. I am 13, and trust me I wanted a dog forever. FOREVER. I finally let go of all the whining and became quiet, just reminding my parents once in a while. If you whine forever, they will never actually listen to you.We agreed to let me prove myself. I had to go for walks without a dog, I had to be extra nice, atc. for half a year and believe me it was(still is I'm still doing it for one more month!) and I'm getting my dream dog this summer. LUCKY you might say. No, I worked on it and I got my reward.Well, you can also volunteer at the shelter. If your dad just plain doesn't like dogs, then you can lend out "Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's soul". That convinced my parents too.

Tell him about the abuse they suffer...I have heard attrocious things that happen to them when owners feel they cannot run any faster after their racing days are done ...There are greyhound rescue websites on the web. We considered a greyhound, I have heard though that they run like hell...they see a squirrel and they are off...we wound up going through a rescue site and got a Retriever Basset Hound, but I still have not ruled out getting a greyhound sometime in the future...I was concerned if he got out he would be off and running, but I feel bad for these dogs and I think the next time I get a dog, it will be a greyhound....

Three easy steps:
1) Pay for food, vet bills, shelter, toys and training of the previously mentioned Greyhound.

2) Spend weekends and evenings cleaning up after the Greyhound. (This may be reduced to just weekends when the dog is older)

3) Due to the nature of a greyhound, buy your dad a forty-acre ranch so that the greyhound will have enough room to where it is in a comfortable living environment.

Hope you don't have other pets, as only 10% don't have a prey instinct to kill smaller animals
Most Greyhounds have a definite prey instinct. It is instinctive for these dogs to chase anything that moves quickly. They are extremely fast and some will kill cats and other domestic animals, althoug if you get them young they can be trained to not do that. They do not usually like rough-house play. They don't bark much though. Even though they can be docile, they do best when they can get a lot of exersize. They have no uindercoat, so less people are allergic to their coats/dander.

Show your dad you've thought it through and done your homeworki on this, I'm sure he'll come around.

Do what my husband did to me- Take him to a place where they bring retired racers to educate people about them and adoption (Petsmart sometimes does this, or call Greyhound pets of America and ask for locations). Once he sees how low mantainance, lovable, and awesome they are, and learns about the value of adopting one (saving them from a horrible life and death) he may be more suseptable...

Good luck.
Greyhounds are wonderful!

tell your dad he might like to race your dog, lol this is a great and easy way of making money, or ask him if he loves you and if he does he would buy you a pup to make you happy, HAHA that never worked for me though. i live at my mates now lmao
