there were 4 love birds in the cage upstairs
now there is eight
will there be any side effects from inbreeding,
my friend inbred her dogs and they all came out with
two dew claws.
will there be anything noticable in the love birds???

yes they do inbreed - most animals do.. apart from humans. But is is best not to. in the wild, they would come into contact with millions of other birds and inbreeding wouldnt be a problem.

you can inbreed them for a couple of generations, I wouldnt go any further than the first, after that, it is best to bring in a new, unrelated bird to give a bit of variety to the gene pool, hence avoiding concentrating any genetic problems the birds might have.

Birds dont recognize their siblings as taboo. They will absolutely inbreed. Inbreeding will magnify traits in your birds. If there is something fabulous it will become more fabulous, but if there are any weaknesses they will be worse. If you keep the gene pool shallow you risk having weak birds. Don't worry about it now, but I would avoid it in the future.

You won't know until you try.
Inbreeding isn't advisable, but often they came out okay.
For that matter, 2 dew claws doesn't sound like a serious defect.

One generation is ok.

When breeding season is over, separate the boys from the girls.

Two generations will not be good.
