I just donated some blood two days ago and it was my second time. The process went smoothely just as it did my last time until the phlebotomist took the needle out and told me to raise my arm up...
...
That's when it happened, my hand went numb when I raised it, I started getting nauseated and for the rest of the day I felt horrible and could barely eat. I would also get very tired from walking and I just couldn't climb up stairs without wanting to pass out and only wanted to sleep for the rest of the day.
....
I was wondering if it was because I didn't have a proper meal. Or maybe I should've waited longer before donating? I really want to donate again but now my family seems very against me doing anymore...I even want to look into bone marrow donations (if I could, I would donate everyday :D I like needles and the fact that I'm contributing).

Hello. How do you feel now? If you're still feeling that bad, you'll want to go to the ER and explain what happened. Otherwise, if you didn't eat a heavy meal before you donated, then I'm not surprised that you felt bad. You should be fine. However, there IS a timeframe that must pass before you donate again. If you weigh at least 117 lbs. and are in good health, you can donate every 56 days.

that's really great of you think everyone should, if you didn't eat a fulfilling meal before you will get sick. google sites about blood donations or go to the American heart association and print off some paper work about blood donations for your family sincerely explain to them you think you might have made a mistake and not eaten properly and you'd like to try it again, if it persist then you'll wait a while or see a doctor about it.

I think what you are doing is great but I think maybe you should go slower because you may suffer from loss of blood resulting in weakness. So take a break for now and when you feel better then you can start doing it again. Mainly it's your health in jeapordy so relax for a while.

I appreciate that you want to give blood. You do need to eat and drink to build your blood back up. Try to make sure your diet is good before you give too, and do ask them at the blood bank for advice. I'm sure they would be your best source.

I think that is awesome that you a donor! More people should do it. You probably felt ill because you had not eaten enough. That is very common.
