State law restricts selling or giving handguns to juveniles under 21, and other firearms to juveniles under 18, except for supervised loans of firearms or for limited lawful activities (such as hunting).

You do not have to have a permit to own a gun in the first place. It just needs to be legally registered. You do need a permit to carry a gun concealed however.(To hide your possession of the gun in public.) I believe you must be 18(rifle/shotgun) or 21 (pistol/hand gun) anywhere to own a gun in the U.S. unless you are law enforcement personnel.
