no, your puppy should not be any harder to train than a pure bred.German shepards are smart dogs to begin with, just because she's not full blooded does not mean he will not be just as smart as her mommy.
Good luck with her and enjoy your new pup !!!

I have found it to be just the opposite. My next door neighbor has a PURE German Shepard and that animal is dumber than dirt. My mutts outshine that looser every time. The breeding process breeds father to daughter with off springs breeding with their aunt or uncle or grandfather and this process is continued in an attempt to have a dog with perfect appearance. It doesn't matter that the animal at 6 years old is blind, has terrible hip problems, and the I.Q. of a slab of concrete.
The same thing can happen in humans and is the reason most states outlaw marriage to relatives closer than second cousins and some go farther than that. Line breeding in humans will yield children who are retarded or insane. It may not happen in the first generation but it will happen. Look at the royal houses of Europe and how much insanity was there. And that happened in spite of some of the wet nurses substituting their own child for the royal child. That alone saved the royal houses of Europe from total insanity. It was bad enough with the dribble of outside blood can you imagine the Crowned Heads without that dilution of the blood line.

Very untrue..I had mutts all my life until I got into breeding the Shih Tzu's Every mutt I had I train. Very Very smart dogs. So don't let anyone tell you that your dog won't be able to train. Your dog can and you will be surprise just how smart your dog can be. Your bf is wrong in the way he is thinking. So take your mutt to puppy training class and let her be the top of her class.

That is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard in my life!!!! Whoever told you that doesn't know a thing about dogs! The only dogs I have had my entire life were mutts and they are usually smarter and always sweeter than purebreds. They also live longer!!! Each mixed pup takes whatever good traits each parent has. Your puppy would make the other dogs at the training classes look extremely stupid when it comes to learning commands. Just train her yourself and she will be the best damn dog in the world!

SO NOT TRUE! LOL i never heard this one...i have mutts and they are better trained then some purebred ones i know...but i have been working with dogs along time...i would say if ya trained or have a good idea about training then ur lovely shep mix should be fine. if u are completly clueless then yeah i would seek a trainer. or at very least a good book.
Sheps are smart dogs and very easy to train for the most part. and i wish i could remember a site for testing dog smartness i know mixes rated high on the list.

Absolute nonsense, that's what it is. We've usually had mixed-breed dogs -- lovable mutts they were -- and very well-trained dogs, too. Your bf sounds lazy or snobbish, one or the other, or maybe just misinformed. Mixed breeds are often more intelligent and healthier than purebred dogs.. Check with your vet to see if he or she thinks your pup will have any problems with training, if you're concerned. I wouldn't be concerned about it, though.
The only dog we ever had that was downright stupid was a purebred beagle. The breeder had to leave him at the local pound because he was not only small but he was also too dumb to learn to be a show dog. All our mutts did quite well in the brain department, as well as in sociablility.

No this is so not true. Being a mutt does not a puppy or dog stupid.
I bet the person who said this has a muttand never trained it so it appeared stupid. Any trained dog be it mutt or pure will only be as good as the person who trained it.

first of all, your boyfriend is an idiot. consider "seeing other people." there's no such thing as a "purebred" dog. pedigrees have most all been created from 2 or more breeds in order to get the ideal characteristics for that particular pedigree. for example, i'm sure you've heard of jack russell terriers, like the little dog on the show Frasier. jack's are mixes of several different terriers, created by JACK RUSSELL. if you know anything about them, they're BRILLIANT dogs. hyper and barky, but brilliant. "doberman pinschers" are half doberman and half pinscher. a doberman is quite large and a pinscher is a medium sized breed. also very intelligent dogs. take your puppy to Petsmart and they'll help you out with your new pup :)

Don't believe that for a minute! Mutts, or as I prefer to call them, mixed breeds, are VERY intelligent (sometimes even smarter than purebreds)! In addition to obedience training, get your puppy involved in Agility classes, and eventually, Agility competition. Mixed breeds do very well in those, too!

No way. I have owned , or should I say been owned..lol by only mutts and they are the best! They are more loyal and more loving...Your BF needs to be trained. Trust your heart and love her and feed her right and show her you care . And guess what ...she will be your best friend and even be there for you when you bf is not. But any dog requires care and has needs. It is harder then having a baby. So do your best!

Don't know where ur friend is getting her information from but this is not at all true. I have three dogs. one of them is a mix breed. He is half German Shepard and half Lab. He is one of the most obidiant dogs I have ever had. He sits, shakes, lays down. He does not come inside the house unless he is told to. If the gate is open he will not leave. Any dog is trainable with time, patience and luv.
