They want to be accepted here - why not learn to speak, read and write English??

I don't know, but if they want to live here they should, any other country would require them to learn the language. The government should stop printing forms in languages other than English (or charging for translated forms) and schools should stop the ESL classes (immersion classes in English is a good way to learn quickly). If you are going to live in a country you should speak their language, they should not be expected to learn yours. The ONLY exception to this is with non-verbal, deaf and/or mute people since they cannot "speak" English; however, they should learn either PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) in English or ASL (American Sign Language).

Because they feel that they're better than us, better than our language. But obviously since they've learned spanish, they should understand that they need to learn English... Spanish isn't mexican, it's from the country Spain... There is such a language as Mexican, but it's nothing like the mexican's speak. (Theres SMALL parts of mexico that do speak mexican, though.) They were taken over and forced to learn the Spanish language... They plan on taking us over and forcing us to learn it too. :P

I used to work retail. And for those 6 months I would have so many mexican old ladies walk up tome and speak spanish to me. When I would reply with "I don't speak spanish", they would get upset and walk away... Umm. No. This is my country you've invaded. I'm not stooping down to your level. Heck, haha, I even understand some spanish because of picking it up now and then, but do I let on? No. If you're going to speak spanish to me, you're going to get a cold shoulder and a finger in your face.

Plus, since there's so many of them in the southern area of the states, they outnumber the white people 25-1. They figure that they've won. They've taken over. And, they're right. We're letting them win by not doing anything about them being here...

There are illegial mexicans to this day in our country who have criminal charges in the US on their sheet. Why? Why wouldn't we have booted them the first time? It's America's fault that they've taken over.

I'm about to move to Mexico. Heck. In 5 years, all the mexicans will be gone anyways. :P

They do go and learn English. Speak it, read it and write it. But for the most part only after they have arrived here legally or illegally. Because the school systems are not required to see if they are here legally or illegally thereby giving them the same education for them and their children as they do yours, mine or anyone else with children. Only they are using our tax dollars to do so. Which is wrong in my opinion when they are here illegally. If they want to teach them English - then the teachers should volunteer and go to Mexico to do so, and spend their own money in the process. If they are even lucky they are given honours and a write up in the local paper praising them for arriving here illegally and then learning the English language, only to go on talking about how they are going to give back to the community by teaching English to more illegals. Isn't that just precious?!

Why are your questions so ignorant? Also, I do know how to speak, read, and write English, Spanish, and I'm learning Italian. I don't know what 'so many Mexicans' you are talking about. Most Mexicans that I know are learning or already speak English unless they just arrived and are too busy working or don't have enough money for it. Was English your first language? Well it might seem easier to you if it was, if you had to learn it it wouldn't be. Stop the ignorance.

And how would that answerer know that Mexico would not cater to them if they only spoke English?

How can the United States adapt a second language if it does not even have an official first one?

Many want the money only. They fund the family in Mexico and go back to build their house and live the Mexican good life. That goes for a good number of immigrants from Latin American countries. Make the money and go back later to live a better life than ifn they never left. Those who wish to stay in the U.S. will likely learn the language, if for no other reason, because their kids are educated in our public schools and learn to speak English.

The doctors and lawyers and rich people stay in Mexico. They run the show out there. The ones that come here most not all probably cant even speak correct Spanish. They probably dont know english for the same reason you dont know spanish or whatever other language..

Again with the stereotypes !

I know mexicans that not only speak, read and write English, but they know the history of this country better than any American.

They don't learn English because nobody here enforces that they should. Practically everything is available in both English and Spanish now. The U.S. has been catering to them for far too long now. It used to be (and still is, I thought) that English was the National Language in this country.

Most don't learn English because they don't need to. They move in to a neighborhood that is mostly Spanish speaking, and form their own little communities. Plus most of the stores have bilinguals and signs with both English and Spanish.
