Your facial expression is a major part of asking a question. If you're asking a yes or no question, your eyebrows tend to be raised. If it is a who, what, when, where, why, how question, your eyebrows are furrowed. It seems silly at first, but its something people generally do when speaking English and don't even notice. That is a signifier that someone is asking a question, and what type it is. Especially on the yes or no questions. Without using your "up eyebrows". Are you hungry? becomes You are hungry. Hope that helps.

Like the other posters have mentioned, facial expression is very important and conveys a lot of specific info. However, until you master your facial expressions, you can use the sign for a question mark.

This is using your index finger only. Palm facing outward. You then bend this finger up and down very quickly about 3-4 times. (This is the slang version).

The official and standard version is to simply make a n invisible question mark in the air with your index finger. You can make this before your question, after your question, or both before AND after your question. :-)

American Sign Language is entirely different from English; it has different syntax and grammar. For instance, when you want to know someone's name it's not directly "What is your name?" but rather something more like "Your name what?". So, how to sign your question will depend on what you're asking.

There is no sign for a question mark. You just raise your eyebrows so they know your asking a question.
