Because animals are unable to communicate with us the same way we communicate with eachother (not just talking, but many ways) they find different ways to communicate. For animals, licking for example, if not just for taste satisfaction like it would be for people - it is one of the easiest ways an animal can communicate. Wolves in the wild often times lick the dominate male and female wolves faces in order to express their desire to submit and to show affection. Dogs are really no different. They like your feet, hands, and sometimes your face to show affection and depending on the relationship you have with them, they are acknowledging that you are the master and they respect you. Dogs arent the only animals to do that, cats do too, they often will lick eachother socially, when people presume that it is JUST to clean and so on.

I hope this helps, however, you cant always dismiss whatever was saying about our feet being tasty, lol. YOu kinda have to know your animal, and if he is a goofy guy (or girl) he might just be taken by when you walked in (eww). :)

alot of it has to do with poor circulation. my dog did it all the time and her vet said its poor circulation. basically the dog's feet fall asleep and they get all tingly when they start to move them and as a result they bite or lick their feet.

Because they are usually within the closet reach to them also because our feet sweat and they like the salt from our sweat.
