Ive been at this skateboard thing for a month now, and I love it and all, but Im barely seeing any progression. Then I see kids that are half my age flippin and dippin over trash cans. How long should it really take to be GOOD at an ollie, let alone master it?

It's hard to tell - all of a sudden, you'll just get it. The important thing to remember is to use downward force on your rear foot with your front foot in the middle of the board. After the tail pops, you'll want to jump as high as possible. As the board follows you up, you slide your front foot forward to level the board out.

It's an action/reaction type equation. Once you master the basic ollie, you'll see where foot placement and pressure will flip or turn the board.

Everyone is different. Some people it takes 2 weeks. Like everyone says, practice is the key. And believe it or not shoes do make a difference. Yes you can ollie in old school converse shoes, but a good skate company shoe with good grip can help.

couple months to be good at it..once you start doing them without even thinking then you know you can do them better. Practice doing them still and then do them moving. I teach people to practice still on carpet for a while just to get it down, takes about a day that way then to go on a try doing them moving within a month or two they're damn good at it. Also helps to not just practice the ollie try other tricks, pop shuvits and kickflips just see if you can. Good luck

The hardest part is the timing of when to push down on the tail, when to jump, and how quickly to suck up your legs. The secret: It's all done at the same time. The faster you do it, the easier it becomes. Think about jumping off with one foot and sucking your legs up to your chest.
