Check in your community to see if you have a dog run. These are fenced in areas where dogs can play off leash with other dogs. I can walk my 2 year old lab for hours and he still is not tired, but when I take him to play with other dogs, he gets tuckered out!!! When dogs play with each other, the energy they expend is nothing compared to walking around with you. You'll also meet people in your community that have dogs as well & you'll be amazed @ what you can learn from other dog owners. Good luck!!!

Dogs love being outdoors!! Maybe their is a good off-leash area near you. It is a young dog, so it must still have some playfulness in it, maybe it needs a play mate. My dog is 8 years old and he still loves running and playing. If you can get it to exercise enough to drop a few pounds, you will probably see a big difference in it. It will be happier, healthier and more full of zest. Good luck.

Get a treadmill for him- or- Go roller blading with him or teach him to trot alongside your bicycle- or- take him to a large dog park and let him run with the pack if he is socialized- or- find an agility course in your area and get into the action with him- or- Take him to a lake where you can both go for a swim and there is some countryside to romp around in, if that is something your area provides. Those are just a few ideas. Hope you get plenty of them and pick the ones you want to do with your dog.

Take him to the park and throw a ball. Take him for longer walks. Feed him less food! Or you can give him green beans in place of some of his food.. that helps bring their weight down. But check with your vet on how much to give your dog.

This was suggested to a friend of mine by a vet but I still think you should run it by your own vet before trying it. My friend got a doggie backpack for his german shepherd and filled the side pouches with sand so it added weight and their walks became more of a workout for the dog. The dog loves the backpack because when he has it on, he thinks he's working and doing his job. He takes carrying the backpack very seriously and he's getting more exercise going the same distance as before.
