Flying a plane on it's self is not that hard. The thing is that you have to be doing more things at the same time than some people can handle, and especially when landing an aircraft, a whole lot happens in verry little time, so you have to be on your toes every second of it.

There are many variables that affect how easy or hard an airplane is to fly. Speed of the aircraft, cockpit configuration, more than one engine, pilot technique, etc. Weather and wind are a big factor. Almost all aircraft will take off into the wind and rarely with a tailwind greater than 10 kts. Weight can even have a factor on how well the airplane can be controlled. Why don't you go to www.beapilot.com or www.aopa.org and you can gain valuable information about what it takes to become a pilot or even some basic information on what makes an airplane fly.

Flying the plane isn't that difficult, however, landing can be. I took pilot ground school while in high school. I was able to take off and fly without assistance from my instructor but I was never able to land without assistance. Maybe it was because we were landing on a tiny airstrip less than 1/4 of a mile long, had to manuver around power lines, and usually had severe cross winds.

It probably pays to have a little instruction.
Either that, or a good parachute.
