For those who missed the obvious, yes, there was a question as if they were hostages. They were being held pending a criminal trespassing investigation (or the equivalent thereof). Setting terms for their release, bartering a confession of responsibility from Britain makes them hostages. I say its an act of war as well.

Well, look at it another way. If the UK sends armed marines into another country's territorial waters, that is also considered an act of war. That is how Iran views the problem.
You don't know all the facts, because the British MoD is probably hiding some truth and so are the Iranians. This is all a little game, and the British are going to have to swallow some pride to get their boys and girl back. This is what Iran wants, to embarass an American ally and former superpower.

Technically yes, if the definition of a hostage is someone being held against their will with their release contingent upon some form of payment.
They could also be viewed as foreign nationals who illegally crossed into the territory of anothe rsoverign nation... even though it was unintentional.
Iran are being d*cks about the whole thing and trying to make a point... but then that's just one man's opinion.

Yes, they are hostages.
"Personally, I think this is the perfect time to give Iran a taste of what it's in for. Send in the baddest motherf****rs we have, go after the UK soldiers being held captive, kill everything between us them, and make it abundantly clear to everyone that there's more where that came from if they continue to their joyride down Nuclear Boulevard. Hopefully, nip that in the bud so it doesn't result in any full scale war. But for now, do whatever it takes to get the UK guys home."

Yep, they are hostages....Iran gets the itch every twenty years or so to loose their ever loving mind and act out.
However, hopefully this one won't end up in a nuclear holocaust with that nutbag in charge of Iran.
..and, just think, we though the Ayatollah Khomeini was a pain in the a$$.

of course it does...iran has committed an act of war...only, the west is paralyzed by liberalism and is impotent against a theocracy like iran. iran will continue to increase its demands while promising to release the captives...it is the game they play...and we play right into it...force is the only thing these people understand and is the only solution...unfortunately, we dont have any leaders with the balls and in the position to do what is necessary...but i still have hope a reagan or a patton will come along and make this all better...

Wake up the war is on. The Iranians are fighting it now. The only question is how many of us die before we start to fight back. They furnish the bombs that are killing our troops and Iraqi civilians right now. They supplied the missles that rained into Israel, and hit the Israeli ship.
What do you think they're going to do with the nukes once they have them.

It stands to reason.
Iran is being stupid, they shouldn't provoke England or the Untied States into a conflict.

You could see it that way, but think of this: A person is arrested for breaking and entering. The judicial system wants 5000 dollars bail, otherwise the criminal has to endure several years of jail time.
Are they a hostage?
