The only way to brush curly hair is when its wet. It's actually best to use a comb when there is conditioner in the hair or just finger-comb. For dandruff, just make sure to massage the scalp thoroughly with conditioner.

My hair is naturally curly. The best thing I have found is Aussie Moist. Shampoo and Conditioner It helps with the dandruff and also makes the hair softer and more manageable. While washing hair in the tub while the hair is under the water finger comb it. Then as soon as she gets out of the tub brush trough it

I'd use dandruff shampoo and slowly try to unknot the dread lock. Do you use conditioner? If you don't you should. It works wonders for my hair.

If she has one big dread lock now, the only thing left to do is...*gulp* cut it!
I was going to suggest lots and lots of conditioner, but, I highly doubt that will work.
Good luck on this task!

Run your fingers through it or let it dry w/o brushing/combing after showering. Then bursh it out after when it's a little wet but not too much.
