I had been takent Effexor for about 4 months now during my postpartum. My medical insurance had ran out so I started cutting my mgs. in half. I was taken half the dosage for about 2 weeks and then I completely ran out. Now I'm having the withdrawl effects. This has been going on for about 5 days now. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long this is going to last?

I am currently on effexor and have tried to wean myself off. It has been unsuccessful and unfortunately I have had to go back to effexor despite the slow and deliberate process I took. Today I am home from work because I couldn't find my effexor and missed 2 days. I went to the pharmacy today and got another bottle and I am already feeling better. I'm am looking into trying to go off of effexor again. The best advice I have found is at www.abchomeopathy.com. Also, if you can try to wean yourself some more, do. I was uninsured for a while and paying the very high out of pocket expense for my effexor. I later found out that my doctor has tons of samples. You might want to try to call your doctor and let them know what is going on. Also let them know you are uninsured so another appointment would be difficult and costly for you. Some doctors don't get it but most are helpful and want to make sure you are doing okay.

I took effexor several years ago, also postpartum. I didn't like the way it made me feel if i missed a dose, even by a couple of hours. i took for about 8 months then quit cold turkey. It took about a month before i felt normal again. All I wanted to do is sleep. If you really feel like you still need an antidepressant, call your doctor. Maybe they can prescibe you a generic antidpressant that's more affordable. I took Prozac for several years with great results & its usually less than $20. I hope this helps. Good Luck!!!

Effexor is in a drug class called SSRI's. You really shouldn't have stopped taking it all at once and that's probably why you're having the withdrawal effects. Abruptly stopping an SSRI can lead to a condition known as serotonin syndrome. You could, at its worst, go into a coma and even die. Call your doctor and explain your situation. You should at least be checked out to make sure that you're ok.

it lasts about 2 weeks for me. that was the worse thing i ever did (getting on that drug) i would try an antidepressant with alot less side effects, and try counseling. you can do a search for effexor and read more about how common withdrawl is. i hope this helps, but good luck, and hang in there. it WILL go away

My girlfriend went through this process and was totally miserable for about a week...and then continued to feel the withdrawal symptoms for a couple more weeks after that, but not as often/as bad.

Hope you're feeling better soon.
