Limewire is free, but illegal, and while the program isn't a virus, what ever you download could give you a virus or spyware. Had to reinstall windows once, because of that. So download it at your own risk.

Limewire is free, and it can be virus free if you are careful.
For instance, if you want to download "It's Not Over" by Chris Daughtry, and you search for it. Now, if the file is only 300kb or is 75 MB, but it says Chris Daughtry, you can probably assume it's not a music file and is in fact a virus. It's all about using some sense.

yes it is free, yes you can get tons and tons of songs for free on there, and yes unfortunately you can get viruses there. i use a Macbook and it usually tells me which files are corrupt, however my PC does not and will download everything including viruses, the one i downloaded that i knew had a virus, downloaded funny (the amount downloaded kept going up and down, it was weird) i kind of knew i should have stopped it but i didn't so my pc got a virus, luckily it was a sort of new computer so i reverted back to my last weeks save of data, and i didn't lose much.

limewire is free, its great. As for virused, you only get em when you dowload em. if you see like an exe file thats 20 kb dont download it. its common sense. another popular thing on limewire is "cool game.exe" whis is 29 kb. Dont download any exe files and you should be fine.

its free if you don't get the pro. Make sure you have good firewall virus protection. lots of time if the file is corrupted lime wire will let you know and you can stop the download
