i found a source that says supermax prisons allow 1-3 hours of visitation a month...is that any different than a regular prison? This same source says that in supermax's officers use "reasonable force" using cell extractions as an example but i thought that they were allowed in regular prison as well? help someone

I was in two prisons a mzximum security and a minimum. In the max you got 2 half-hour visits a week, through plexiglass on a phone. And you were out of your cell about 7 hours a day, and had jobs and stuff, and no you don't get paid. In the minimum you got two 1 hour visits a week and you could touch touch your visitors. And there were no cell just rooms with about 30 people in em, and no locks or anything, just had to be in bed at 9. And there you could get real jobs and get paid but they'd take 25% for rent and whatever, and you could only have 75 dollars a week of that, the rest went into an account. If you got in trouble at the minimun they brought you back to the max, and if it was bad enough you went to the hole (24 hour lockdown, 3 showers a week) for 7-30 days. If you got in trouble at the max you went staight to the hole. Hoe that ansers everything for ya.

I now guys in prison who get more visitation than that in one day. They get visits every weekend 2 days like 8 hours a day. Supermax is restricted because of the level of crime one has to commit to be there in the first place.

You are correct. In any prison, cell extractions are allowed, and correctional officers are allowed to use reasonable force to accomplish this task. The key is, they must use the minimum amout of force necessary to make the extraction. Obviously, a prisoner who is simply not compliant or verbally belligerant does not warrant a crack in the head with a baton. However, someone who is kicking and fighting will often get the wood shampoo.

First there is no "regular" prison, there are prisions of security levels and more often different security levels within the same prison, just different wings or cell blocks.

There is minimum security, these are often camps and some don't even have fences.

There are meduim, high,, max, supermax and high super max. And then you have solidary where inmates may be sent temp for punishments.

And even within these security levels some individual inmates may have special seucirty requirements, some require 4 officers to be present to leave thier cell block. And they have to be shackled and handcuffed to come out of cell.

And often the levels of visitation is determined by an inmates specific security rating and how they follow the rules.

And yes reasonable force can and is used anywhere.

If you have a inmate who strips naked, and puts body waste all over them, ties or tapes sharpened pencils to thier hands, it often takes alot of reasonable force to get him out of his cell.

Supermax...is the worst. The hardest man's mind will be broken by Supermax. Sensory deprivation is the worst torture. It breaks the mind and while leave the body unharmed.
