The Devil (Satan) was originally an angel, but he turned against God thinking he was as good as a god himself.

lets see this is a theory i have about that hope it helps . heaven is for eternity right . so think about this if a bird lets say a swallow that's a medium bird if that bird would take its beak and go to the ocean and fill its beak then go to the moon and put the water there and keep doing that until all the water on earth was gone could you imagine how long that would take well , that is just the beginning of eternity we are here for a short time 80 to 120 years eternity is forever now saying that i think we are here for a test to see if we can listen to god and do what he tells use to , that is by doing what the bible tells use too if we don't then we cant stay in daddy's house and Satan don't want use to cause he got kicked out hope that helps

Did God know the devil would betray Him before He made him?? Of course...

So it had to be to give some folks an option, other than Heaven.

It's not fair to those who don't want to follow God and go to Heaven, so all-knowing, he made the Devil, to be a leader to those who disagree and want to go to Hell.

So now we all have the Free Will to choose..

Because, God didn't make the Devil, man did.

I'm a little confused on why everyone is mentioning how Satan fell. Because God is omnipotent, he can see into the future, making everything past tense. You can say that Alexander the Great had free will to conquer Persia, but since we already know that he did, it wasn't really free will.

Anyway, it's because he wanted to test us! Lol!!1one!

So he could weed out the good from the bad. Everyone has free will and choice. The devil had the same option and he chose the wrong one.

The Devil made himself. It wasn't His plan for those things to happen and if it was, it was to teach us a lesson.

He did not make the devil, he made Lucifer. But Lucifer's pride caused him to rebel and become the devil.

God created angels and gave them also a free will. He knew how we all are going to use our free will. But I rather had someone love me by choice instead of programming them to love me. : )

Again you do not understand freewill. Freewill extends to not only us humans but the angels. Lucifer (Satan) had a choice to serve God loyally but refused and he will burn in hell for his hubris rebellion. Just like he created people even though he foreseen whether they would be good or evil on earth it is freewill and things need to play out. God does not “abortion souls” to prevent the birth in physical world a person that is going to be vile and wicked because that would not be freewill, we could not possibly fathom with our carnal minds the infinite wisdom of God almighty, for we are the pot and God is the potter;

Jeremiah 18

At the Potter's House

5 Then the word of the LORD came to me: 6 "O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?" declares the LORD. "Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel. 7 If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed, 8 and if that nation I warned repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned. 9 And if at another time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be built up and planted, 10 and if it does evil in my sight and does not obey me, then I will reconsider the good I had intended to do for it.
11 "Now therefore say to the people of Judah and those living in Jerusalem, 'This is what the LORD says: Look! I am preparing a disaster for you and devising a plan against you. So turn from your evil ways, each one of you, and reform your ways and your actions.' 12 But they will reply, 'It's no use. We will continue with our own plans; each of us will follow the stubbornness of his evil heart.' "
This means that he is the creator (potter) and we are the created (lump of clay mold to a fashioned pot) who are we the pot to talk back to the potter. God can do what he wants, when he want, if he wants, without have to give any explanations or justifications to us. Thank goodness he is merciful God, notice verse 7 and 8:

7 If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed, 8 and if that nation I warned repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned.

This means when he gives a warning you better repent and he will forgive you and disregard the punishment that he had in mind if you do not you have no one to blame but yourself not God. He does not like to punish but if he has to, to wake us up he will notice this verse:

9 And if at another time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be built up and planted, 10 and if it does evil in my sight and does not obey me, then I will reconsider the good I had intended to do for it.

Revelation 22

17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.

As you see above verse, love towards God is not mandatory because if it were that would be “love rape”. God has his hands out and extended, it is up to us if we choose to take his hand or not. Do you understand?
