Yes, grapefruit is metabolized by the same enzymes that metabolize some medications. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist because there are many medications that have this interaction. The main thing to remember with this interaction is to keep your grapefruit eating/juice drinking constant ie: if you usually drink 3 cups a day of grapefruit juice, keep that constant or if you never have any grapefruit, don't suddenly start eating 4 a day.

I know that grapefruit will interfere with blood pressure medicines and I believe there are many others as well. I think it has something to do with enzymes in grapefruit and how medicine is broken down in the intestine.

There definitely are some medications where eating grapefruit juice or drinking grapefruit juice is a big no-no. (I think there are some antibiotics that are effected by this.) Check with your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse.

Grapefruit juice contains chemicals that can cause problems with enzymes that break down certain types of medicines in your intestines. When a medicine does not get broken down properly in the intestines, you can end up with too much medicine in your blood. Having too much medicine in your blood increases your chances of having serious side effects.

Yes grapefruit juice is acid. And all acids always get into reaction with all kinds of medication or substances. They neutralize bases, and also react with the salts of this bases to give new salts or new bases.
