is there anyway to prevent cold sores?

I get them all the time. I use abreeva which gets rid of them somewhat quickly. i was just wondering if there was anything i could do to prevent them from coming so often.

I use Lysine (found in the vitamin aisle) It is an amino acid, a tablet that you take. I use to take it every day because I had them very bad all of the time. Now I only need to take them when I feel one coming on. I usually take two the first day and then one a day until I cannot feel it at all.

No there is no way to prevent cold sores. They are a symptom of a strand of the Herpes virus, and that virus cannot be gotten rid of. Stress tends to help bring them on, so try not to be stressed and keep putting the abreeva on them when you do get them.

You can get a prescription for Acyclovir. If you take that when you first feel one coming in (you know the symptoms) you can prevent it from even showing up.
I take that and all I get, honestly, is one flake of skin. Your doctor can also give it to you to take in low doses on a daily basis so they won't show up. But if you take it with the first hint of getting one--they won't show up at all.

there is nothing you can do to prevent them. they are caused by a virus called herpes simplex. it is soo common. its not sexually transmitted herpes...there is a difference. Herpes is with you for your life. they are it just kinda sits in your system and when something like stress comes along it can aggravate the virus and thats when you get herpes and kanker sores.

Apply ice cream drippings to it. The icy cream would make the surface cool. Good luck.
