DHY Amazons ROCK. LOL All of my guys except my tiel were rescues with issues. Here are their stories...

Just over my left shoulder on his hanging play gym is Rio, my Military Macaw. He was a rescue. His issues are screaming, biting to break (bones), extreme aggression towards males, and extreme aggression towards children. He was bare nekkid when I met him. He's my big green, fully feathered chicken butt now.

To my right, is Oscar. Oscar is a 12 year old Umbrella Cockatoo with severe biting issues. When I first met him, his owners told me that he bit unexpectedly and without warning. I pretty much called them bald faced liars. Then on day two of his being here, he was running back and forth on the couch between my husband and I for scracthes, and just as they said, he ran up and buried his beak through my left nostril. Before his crest even was up, there was blood all over the place. We're working through his issues. His is that he hates women. And he plucks his chest. The chest plucking is currently in remission, and his biting has ceased (so far so good anyway...)

Directly behind me right now is Elle (his name is Elvis, but he calles himself Elle) the 8 (almost 9) year old Double Yellow Headed Amazon. He was bought with drugs, and then when they were going to turn around and sell him for drugs, the guy's mother stepped in and brought the bird here. I was told that he's evil, a biter, doesn't talk, hates men, and won't step up for anyone. Instead what I got was a bird who loves me, my kids, my husband, tells on me all the time, has entire conversations with himself and is the most loveable bird on the planet. He'll be with me until the end of my days or his...whichever comes first.

Next to him on the same cage (for now - not permantently) is Chico, the Orange Winged Amazon. I'm fostering him basicaly for animal control. They busted a "rescue" that had him stuck in a room with about 100 rodents who's cages rarely if ever got cleaned. Chico ended up in that rescue after he was found by a landlord in an apartment that had been vacated by the tenants. Chico was found in a parakeet cage with a big bag of sunflower seeds. Not only does he have fatty liver disease, but his nails had grown around the bars of the cage and he was permanently stuck there. Chico's scared of everything and everyone. The only one he's not scared of is Elle. Elle is bringing Chico out of his shell.

And last but certainly not least, my boys (I have three kids) have a cockatiel named Disco. Disco is the only bird that we've ever actually bought to buy and not to rescue. Disco is a little overworked. LOL We're considering buying another cockatiel so that the kids will have more than one bird to play with because I'm certain that Disco would love a little break now and again.

So...that's it. Those are the birds in my care. All but Chico my birds. Any other birds that come in, unless it's an extreme circumstance get adopted out.

I have 5 budgies (Othello, Ducky, Chanderpaul, Nickie & Louie) and one cockatiel named Blimpit.

This weekend I'm going out to look for a friend for Blimpit, so very soon I'll have another cockatiel, providing I can find the right friend for my little guy.

One day (when I have a large enough house and I'm not renting anymore so i can built a connecting outdoor flight area for them all) I want to have a little bourke parrot or 2 and maybe a princess parrot. I'd also love to open up my house as a home for homeless budgies and other small birds (that's how I got 3 or my current birds)

I'm only slightly bird obsessed...

I have 12 Cockatiels, 3 Sun Conures, 2 Dusky Conures and a Citron Cockatoo at home.

For fun, I volunteer my free time at a Sanctuary that has over 50 birds right now. Among them are: Cockatoos-Umbrella, Sulpher Crested (lesser & greater), Maluccan, Citron, Goffins, Rose Crested; Macaws-Blue & Gold, Scarlet, Green Wing, Military; Amazons-Yellow front, Double Yellow, Blue Front, Congo African Grey; Conures-Mitered, Cherry Headed, Nanday; Love Birds-Peach Face. There's probably more, that's all I can think of at the moment.

My life is full of exotic birds and I wouldn't trade it for anything!
