What is the best route out of the city on a friday morning around 7 am heading towards 95/Washington DC? Ieaving from Astoria/LaGuardia area.
Mapquest says to take the midtown and then Lincoln tunnel to Jersey Turnpike, but I think driving through the city would be a waste of time. How 'bout you?

As usual mapquest gets it wrong,
BQE to Verrazano $9.00 toll
over the bridge
across Staten Island
to 440 SOUTH !!-
Over Outerbridge Crossing-no toll
to
NJTPK and down to DC
From the midtown tunnel exit to the basically the Brooklyn Bridge exit traffic will be a little heavy after that you will be going against the flow

C'mon Steve You know that's not right
even if your route is actually shorter-and I have serious doubts that it is- we both know that in NYC shorter does not mean faster,
Also by going down the NJTPK at that hour he's going to hit Manhattan bound traffic coming from NewJersey all the way down to Goethals Bridge exit
By using the VZ bridge to Outerbrdge routing he will have NYC trafic in his rear view mirror

LISTEN TO MR DANGER...

I drove this route twice a week for years. Mapquest is nuts!

ONE HINT : After crossing the Outerbridge look out for the connection to the New Jersey Turnpike. It comes up in a few minutes.

Take the GCP over the Triboro
Take the 278 Maj Deagan to the GW Bridge
Then head south on the NJ TPK / I 95S

You are going against the flow so there shouldn't be much delays.

You could also take the BQE/Verazano route but it's longer.

Fuhgedaboudit!! Listen to Mr. Danger. That guy Steve just moved here yesterday and don't know didly. Welcome to Noo Yawk!

BTW, heading for DC from NY time your trip so you get around Baltimore before the afternoon rush hour. It's about 4 hours from NYC to Baltimore.
