Be careful here!

You have two types of hotels in the area: Nicer hotels that try to attract business travelers, and the cheap hotels that are quite undesireable, just trying to make a buck. The garment district is not a great area to stay in, in general. It's south of downtown in an industrial area.

The Radisson by USC used to be OK, but it seems to be getting worse, judging by the reviews on tripadvisor.com. Other hotels in the area are pretty dicey. Your best bet is to stick with the major hotels closer to Figueroa and Wilshire, like the Bonaventure or the Hilton, which are more expensive, but are a lot safer. Check out tripadvisor.com for reviews and ratings.
