This sounds wierd, but Swish some Mylanta around the area. It is for acid in your stomach, and it DOES take the sting out and help it to heal. It really does work, and it makes your mouth feel better.

This isn't a home remedy, but it works! I have been getting them for about 15 years now and have tried all the home remedies, ant-acid pills, l-lysine, etc. After talking with a doc and pharmicist who provided no help, I finally talked with my dentist. He recommened I show him one to make sure it IS a canker sore. After looking at it, he confirmed and gave me a Rx for Triamcinolone Acetonide Dental Paste. It is a little tube of cream that you put on the sore. It is a topical steroid that boosts the cells to heal. After putting it on a sore (recommend at night!) it would start healing by the following morning. Because it is considered a mild "steroid" it caused me to not get another sore in that specific location. It is the only thing I have ever had work.

Lysine is an essential amino acid and its used in the treatment of canker sores. It comes in a capsule form and also an ointment that you can put in the canker sores. The following link has some information on food sources you can add to your daily diet:

I used to get sores all the time in my mouth, it was from milk. But anyway, rinse with peroxide. Also take a q-tip and dab peroxide on the sore before you rinse. It kind of breaks the sore open and lets the rinse in better. Or do the same with listerine.

Try powdered alum. My mom uses it on me and it took away the pain quite well.
