I don't think there is a "cure" for such mental illnesses, but there are medications and therapy that can and will help someone who is diagnosed with such illnesses.
I was diagnosed with bi polar and severe depression and its been s struggle to accpet it, but I am talking to people about it and am medication, so things look good for me.....you have to accept treatment and know that there is help out there for you.

Schizophrenia is a mental illness that is caused by an over abundance of dopamine in the brain. There are several symptoms of schizophrenia: delusions, hallucinations, paranoia, going into a catatonic state, et cetera. There is very strong evidence that schizophrenia is genetically linked; however, for many people schizophrenia is a disease that is "triggered" by a stressful event in their life, usually in their teens-twenties. Basically, you have the genetic pre-disposition to schizophrenia as a child, but if at some point you have a "triggering" episode of stress, you could develop schizophrenia.

To answer the rest of your questions:

It is managable with anti-psychotic medicines, but the side effects of these medications are usually severe enough that the person never goes back to leading a fully normal life

Left untreated, schizophrenia is extremely dangerous. The fact that a person is hallucinating and having delusions could cause them to do very harmful things to themselves or others.

There is a much greater chance of someone having schizophrenia if their mother has this disease. I would go as far to say around 30%. But again, this is the genetic pre-disposition. You need a triggering episode to bring about the disease.

its a disease where you hear voices. if you have it severly you might hear a voice telling you to clap your hands.....so you will spend all day just clapping your hands. it is not possible to cure but it is manageable with medications. it does run in a family. so if your mom or dad had it or grandparent then you could have it also. most people are diagnosed by age 5 i think.
