My daughter is 7. She is so tall and thin.. like a model with olive skin. So any clothes she wears, look insane and stylish on her. 2'ce now some teacher at her school told her not to wear a certain shirt! She is only 7 in grade 2. She is so tall that the clothes that fit her, show her belly. She has one other friend too, who has a body like hers, and her tummy always shows too in clothes that fit her. But the shirts the teachers seem to have a problem with are shirts with spagetti straps. What's wrong with spagetti straps?

I have faced this problem also as a parent but mines a little different. I have 3 boys, 2 school aged. My oldest one is 7 and he is told that he can not wear any kind of shoes but tennies shoes because he has gym. So I let him wear his sandels one sunny day and I told him to swithch into his tennis shoes for gym but they wouldn't let him swithch. My 5 yr old is in head start and he is very tall and skinny. The pants that fit in the waist don't fit in length. I think for girls they think it shows too much skin for thier age. Maybe they dont have kids and know what it's like to be a mom of the "hard to fit" group. Spaghetti straps are great when it's hot, but they do slip off on the shoulder easy, also it's easy for them to get caught on other items, like on the playground toys. And the point of her belly showing, out society thinks it's inappropriate to show the belly, but come on, she's only 7. If I were you, I would ask for a copy of the schools dress code.

There are dress codes in every school. Just follow the dress code and your child's teacher won't have a reason to say anything to your child about what she is wearing. I'm sure the teacher is not picking on your child because she wants too. Some clothes are just not made to wear to school regardless of the child's age.

Students need to learn how to dress their bodies. I have a long torso and I am also tall I have the same problem and it was harder as a kid and teen to find cute stylish clothing that covered me all up. I would suggest buying shirts that have a slim fit and buy the size up to see if that helps out or try to wear a tank under her clothes. Spaghetti straps are often considered inappropriate because they are more reviling, but honestly at the age of seven there is not much to show so there should be no problem. If you really don't think that you daughter needs to start buying clothing that covers more.... then, hey, it is just a teachers comment.... who cares :)

Our school has a dress code. Many schools do. Children are not allowed to wear sleeveless shirts (boys and girls). All 3 of my kids are very skinny and two are quite tall. I just buy larger clothes, and sometimes will alter things for them. I also think it is inappropriate for little girls to walk around showing their bellies. It's one thing if their shirts ride up a bit while they are playing, but they should not fit like that all the time.
It sounds like you really like the fact that your little girl looks and dresses like a model. Maybe check your own attitude about this. Teachers should address any concerns about clothes to the parent, not the child.

There are dress codes even for children of that age. In our school district and the one back home {meaning tx} you could not have your stomach showing, you could not wear spagetti straps and this was for all grades including pre-k

Check your childs dress code make sure the clothing your sending her to school wearing is within code if so ask the teacher about it. I doubt shes picking on your child. My sd has been asked to wear different clothing as her mom sends her to school wearing clothes to small for her, which might be why the kids pick on her so much

Growing up I was always told that it was that way to teach us that as we got older we would have to follow the dress code set by the school. I believed the teachers and never argued the issue. I went on to middle school and found that the same supposed dress code was no longer enforced by anyone. I still to this day don't understand why elementary teachers put more emphasis on dress codes than the upper grade schools do. Seems to me it was needed more for the older kids. But I do think spaghetti straps are inappropriate for school.

Does your school not have a dress code in their student handbook? We don't have school uniforms but the school does ban some clothing items. Like obscene pictures and words, too short shorts and skirts (defined by the fingertip test), pajamas (because school is for learning, not sleeping) and tank top/spaghetti straps (for the sexual connotations). If you know the school has a problem with the clothing then stop sending your DD in it. If you have a problem with the rule you need to change it with the school board rather than put your DD in the middle of it.

Spagetti straps are thin, reveal a lot of shoulder and neck. Most teachers just see this as revealing and somewhat slutty behavior. They think that perhaps the student is heading in the wrong direction. Try wearing a zip-up sweatshirt over the spagetti strap top. If you're worried about her tummy showing, tuck the shirt into a pair of pants and wear the sweatshirt. It doesn't look too weird like that. I'm long and lean and have the same problems sometimes. Try buying longer shirts too. Good luck!

There's nothing wrong with spaghetti straps on a 7 year old there's just something wrong with the teacher. You need to talk to the teacher yourself, your daughter is too young to understand. The teacher is uncomfortable with her own sexuality so she's confusing innocent attire with inappropriate sexual attire.

It's also possible (though unlikely) that while dressed this way your child is UNKNOWINGLY mirroring sensual body language she sees on TV. There was a Zest commercial a few years ago in which a 10 year old girl was seen dancing around the bathroom with her towel in a very suggestive and sexual manner - it was COMPLETELY innappropriate but we've been bombarded with so much exploitive and sexual images in the media over the decades that no one noticed.
