That is a completely personal taste kind of question as well as how it looks on YOU.. I personally like long hair on some guys..like my husband who's hair ends between his shoulder blades. Some guys look better with short... some with shaggy...etc.
as far as a general... I think most girls like it short or shaggy.

I prefer hair that is shoulder length or longer, And since that men who like females are more often then not directly, they like long hair because this looks more feminine, as most men have short hair.

some guys look good with long hair and that would be about shoulder length at most.
my vote is for short hair :-)
having it in the middle looks sort of odd to me.

hair over the ears is ugly. don't cut it short though. it should have a few curls and right above the ears. it looks super cute!

lengthy hair is nice but requires maintenance and u have to grow this out for a long time
