i mean, hows the water in the ocean? what temp?

the water is freezing cold. Probably in the 40's.
The water does not get warm until late summer.
That's because the gulf stream goes east off the Outer Banks away from the coast.

Probably in the 40s or 50s right now. We are just starting to warm up weather-wise It now hangs around 58 to 80 degrees as highs. it varies
