I'm always the last to finish tests, but it's really REALLY troublesome in math. I will literally spend hours doing homework that should take a half hour. I'm afraid that when I get to college, they won't let me sit and finish my tests like my kind high school teachers do. I can do the work, it just takes me a long time! I know I must know the material pretty well, because i'm getting good grades.

go get tested for a learning diability. If you have one then they have to give you longer to take tests. If you are just fine then you have to practice reading questions and responding to see what you can do to move faster. College profs will be harder than HS.

You might have dyscalcula. It's a form of dyslexia, but specifically related to math and numbers. I have it, and it has made math very difficult for me. To be accurate, I have to look at the numbers a different way... I had to learn that from a tutor, but often people will figure out "coping strategies" on their own (same with reading dyslexia). Perhaps you have figured that out already since you get good grades. You could look up more info on the internet about dyscalcula - there is a growing knowledge amongst people and the educational system about it... and if you DO have it... and get it documented/diagnosed, you can demand that teachers in college let you take longer on a test, because it is seen as a learning disability requiring accomodation. I am a strong writer and reader, so it has little to do with the reading type of dyslexia... do some more research - I hope this helps. :.)

You should talk to your parents and school, along side a guidance counselor about your situation. Some colleges do recognize some students may not be a fast as some people are when doing a test which do have a special place to do those test with extra time. You should find out which colleges have such a program for people who may have learning or some kind of disability that are slow on tests. Again please talk to your parents, teachers, and guidance counselor about it or you may fail miserable and put a lot of stress on yourself. You are not alone on this issue. Keep your chin up, persevere and don't give up. Good luck.

Well look at it this way at least you are getting good grades! If you rush it you may get bad grades! Take your time, usually in college the tests may take 30-45 minutes Professors usually give you 1 - 1 1/2 hours to take the test.

Hi...from a learning coach

There is something you can fix regarding your approach to your studies.

Of course you must find out what you are doing or not doing. Your problem may be in planning your work...which is is delaying the completion.

For example ...how you read and deal with the question

Do you have a strategy for answering a question.?
Do you have steps?

I list a resource you can get to help you get faster
and work smarter.

You probably need to do some type of memory exercises. Some teachers in college will send you to another room if you need more time to finish a test.

some people are just slower when it comes to calculations, and that isn't comething to be ashamed of, it just means it takes you a little longer to do something that other people can do a little quicker. some college teachers will actually let you take a little longer, and some won't. maybe you are just doing to problem a different way than the other people. maybe you are doing it a longer way than others!
=)

Maybe you're the only one that cares about what they're putting on the test. Don't worry. As long as you're making good grades and learning something, you're fine.

Maybe challenge yourself.

I mean i was slow writing test, homework i was quick though.

But you probably just look over your work and double check.

Maybe you write really neat.

just practice speeding the pace up..
