My fiancee and I were originally going to get married at city hall but due to protests from our families, we are now having a traditional wedding. Im thinking of hiring a professional photographer to take photos of the ceremony and having disposables on the tables for the reception. Has anyone used disposables at their wedding? How did the photos come out?

I'm not concerned with any photos being un-useable since Eckerd accepts any pictures you don't want (I used to work in the photo department there) so you only pay for the ones you keep.

We used both at our wedding. Since you pay the professional photographer by the hour, we used him for all of the formal shots. Once the cake had been cut and the bouquet tossed, we let him go. The more candid shots were fun to see what the guests were doing while we were posing for the formal shots. It looked like everyone was having fun. But be careful, a few of the groomsmen took it upon themselves to take the cameras into the bathroom for some "up close" shots. But we thought it was funny and glad that everyone had a good time.

I had disposable cameras at the reception and I love all of the pictures taken by our guests. I have a separate album full of them. Your photographer won't get many pictures of all of your guests, so this is a great idea. But, make sure you buy new cameras. A lot of disposables are recycled and the pictures tend to turn darker with them. I got married six years ago, but if I remember correctly Kodak and Fuji are the only manufacturers, the others are just recycled products originally made by them.

Disposables were a disaster at this one wedding I was at.
Some kids got a hold of some of them, and found them a great toy to play with.
The other problem with disposable camera's is the lighting. The pictures turn out really bad, because the flash is not bright enough.
I believe you will feel it was a waste of time, as we did.

An idea would be to ask some of your guests to bring there digital camera's, on the wedding invitations. Write down your email and ask them to send them to you via email. Most people tend to have digital camera's.

I did that at my wedding. I had ten tables at my reception and placed a disposable camera at each table. They were wedding themed cameras, and they came with instructions for the guests to put on each table. We also had a professional photographer.

The pictures from the guests came out great (for the most part). They capture moments that your photographer may miss. I highly recommend doing this for your wedding!

When my sister got married we had disposable cameras at the reception on every single table and some tables had two cameras on them but we let the guest take the pictures, and they turned out great but your guest have to be careful due to the fact that the other guest will catch them in the act of decorating the vehicle. Yeah we got caught.

We used disposable cameras at our wedding. We were hoping for what someone said earlier....."more candid and true shots of the feeling of the wedding" etc., but what we got was a few good funny shots, quality not the greatest but ok, and what seemed like a million and one shots of hubby and I kissing and of the cake cutting. I guess it kind of depends on what you're hoping for and what your guests are thinking or feeling that day. Maybe you'll get a good mix, maybe you'll end up with a bunch of something you don't really need and pay for it too. It can be good, it could end up sucking. Sorry, not trying to be a bummer. We did get some good, funny shots! Was it worth it in the end? Not really sure. Maybe it is. In hind sight (been married 12yrs now), those "funny" pictures are still funny to look back on and the cost of my wedding was just the cost of my wedding. In the big scheme of things, the cost was nominal. Sorry to drone on. Good luck.

Its a good idea to have disposables, but not at the expense of a professional. We are going to put one disposable on each table at the reception, but our professional photographer will still be there. If you are looking for an inexpensive photographer, I recommend you get on the knot and go to the message board for your area and talk to the women. I use it for everything the other brides were so helpful in helping me find inexpensive vendors.

Disposable cameras can be a great Way to get some cool candid shot that may be missed by your photographer. But, these cameras should not replace the photographer. Keep in mind that sometimes, especially if there's lots of alcoholic beverages flowing, some of the cameras get "misplaced" and you may get a lot of strange photos.

No. Lots of times, though, people just don't do it, or they steal the cameras. Don't count on the disposables for the ONLY pics from the reception. Get a friend or family member to do pics so you have at least some.

I am going to do this for my wedding. I'm sending my photographer home after all the "formal" shots, and having just the disposables for the reception. Why do I need professional photographs of drunk people? Drunk pictures of drunk people are more fun! Plus, my videographer is going to be there all night.

As long as you expect a couple pictures of bathrooms, kitchens, people's butts.... you know, the general things drunk people think are funny.
