Rommell, sure, but I don't see how you can leave Eisenhower off the list. And Rossokovsky always did brilliantly even if Zhukov and Chuikov hogged all the fame.

I would argue that Patton should not be in the top three. He did a good job of pushing forward but lacked the subtlty that marks a great general. He floated like a brick and stung like a rattlesnake -

Just a matter of taste. Ask three different people, you'll get three different answers. As long as nobody tries to put Montgomery in the list, or von Pualus.

I suppose this is international if not....here are my choices.

American
Patton
McArthur
Eisenhower

International
Rommel consistently faught and destroyed armies superior to him.

Patton
Mc Arthur

Any of those 4 generals properly supplied would have defeated their enemies.
They took chances, they took responsibility.

Eisenhower was not a field general, but knew how to manage a gigantic Army unknown to mankind. Imagine managing all the different countries keeping everyone on the same page.

But really those three...Patton, Rommel, Mc Arthur
hands down.

Gee what about the world......from Ghangis Khan.

Eisenhower, Patton, Montgomery

Rommell was a field marshall. Is that the same thing as a General? I don't know.

Patton was a very good tank commander. No question about it. Sadly, his tactics as a General were rather questionable. His high speed push slicing through enemy forces left his flanks open and his men at great risk. Many men were the cost of his pride. He was very lucky that he had good officers and NCO's to do the fighting he took credit for.

I'll say the top three were,

Bradley
Montgomery
Rommell. (If Field Marchalls are indeed Generals)

Erwin Johannes Eugen Rommel was one of the most distinguished German field marshals.

George Smith Patton Jr. was a leading U.S. Army general in World War II in campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, France and Germany.

General Tomoyuki Yamashita was a general of the Japanese Imperial Army during the World War II era. He was most famous for conquering the British colonies of Malaya and Singapore, earning the nickname The Tiger of Malaya.

Well, since Rommell didn't win, I think he is disqualified. I quite agree with your first two picks however, and as much as I hate to say it, I believe Montgomery deserves an honorable mention!
